How do I change the AI model?

If you use your own API key (BYOK), you pick the model yourself. Go to SEOBetter → Settings → AI Provider.

The quick way

Use the Quick Pick presets near the top of the tab. Each preset fills in the provider and model for you. The recommended pick is OpenRouter with Claude Haiku 4.5. It works with one key, accepts international payments, and costs about $0.02 per article.

The manual way

  1. Under "Add AI Provider (Advanced)", choose a provider from the dropdown.
  2. Pick a model. Each model shows a colored dot: green means tested and reliable, amber means usable with caveats, red means avoid.
  3. Paste your API key and save.

Your connected providers appear in a table above, with the model shown next to each. To switch models later, save the provider again with a different model.

Models to avoid

Some models fail SEOBetter's strict formatting rules and will invent business names in local articles even when real data is available. Avoid: Llama 3.1/3.3, DeepSeek R1 and v3, Mixtral, OpenAI o3/o4, and Perplexity Sonar (it is a research model, not a writer).

Limits by plan

The free plan allows one connected provider at a time. Pro allows multiple.

What about Cloud generation?

If you generate through SEOBetter Cloud (no API key), you do not pick a model. Paid Cloud plans get a "Max quality" toggle on the Generate page instead. It writes the article body with the highest-quality model and counts as two of your monthly Cloud articles.
