How do I improve a low GEO score?

A score under 80 comes with a suggestions list. Work through it from the top. High-priority items show first with a red border, medium ones are collapsed below.

Read the bar charts first

The results panel shows a bar for each check with its point weight. The heaviest checks are readability, citations, and statistics. A low bar on a heavy check costs you the most points, so fix those before chasing small ones.

Common fixes

  • Low readability: shorten sentences. Swap long words for short ones ("use", not "utilize"). Target is around grade 7.
  • Few statistics: add concrete numbers with sources. "Costs $40 to $80 per session" beats "can be expensive".
  • Missing keywords: make sure your primary keyword appears in the first paragraph and in at least some H2 headings. Add your secondary keywords where they fit naturally. The Page Analysis tab in the editor metabox checks each of these.
  • Pronoun starts: rewrite paragraphs that open with "It", "This", or "They" so each paragraph stands alone. AI tools quote paragraphs out of context.
  • No freshness signal: add a "Last Updated: [date]" line near the top.

Re-analyze after editing

The score recomputes automatically every time you save the post. You can also click the Re-analyze button in the SEOBetter sidebar panel to clear the cache and re-run the analysis right away.

When to regenerate instead

If the score is low because the research was thin (few citations, no statistics), editing may not get you there. Regenerating with a slightly broader keyword often produces a better base than patching a weak article. Note that regenerating uses another article from your allowance.
