I hit my free limit

The free plan has two separate article allowances, and both are lifetime caps per site, not monthly ones:

  • 2 cloud articles. No API key needed. These generate on SEOBetter Cloud and exist so you can test before setting anything up.
  • 30 BYOK articles. After you connect your own AI key, you can generate 30 articles. You pay your AI provider for the tokens; the 30 is SEOBetter's free-plan limit.

What the error looks like

When the cloud allowance runs out, generation stops with a message like:

You've used your 2 free Cloud articles. Add your own AI API key (OpenRouter / Anthropic / OpenAI / Gemini / Groq) in SEOBetter Settings for 30 free articles per site (lifetime), or upgrade to Pro for Cloud generation included.

When the BYOK allowance runs out:

You've used your 30 free SEOBetter articles. Upgrade to Pro ($39/mo) for 300 articles a month plus Cloud generation, every content type, and 29 languages.

Do the caps reset?

No. Both caps are lifetime allowances per site. They do not reset next month, and waiting will not refill them. We would rather say that plainly than have you discover it later. The cap counts articles generated, so a failed job you retried does not burn extra slots, but a regeneration of the same keyword does.

If you used the 2 cloud articles but not the 30 BYOK ones, you are not done yet: connect your own AI key under SEOBetter > Settings > AI Provider and you have 30 more articles at a few cents each. Most people test the product properly on those 32 combined articles.

When you are out of both

  • Pro ($39/mo): 50 cloud articles a month with no keys to manage, 300 BYOK articles a month, all 17 content types, 29 languages, 80+ countries.
  • Founder ($99/yr): Pro features at a fixed yearly price. Limited to a set number of seats; once they are gone, the plan closes to new buyers.

Everything that is free stays free at the cap: scoring, Re-analyze, schema generation, meta sync, Search Console data, and llms.txt keep working on unlimited posts. The cap only gates generating new articles. See free plan limits for the full breakdown.
